Back to Residential Next Project: Larchmont

This home’s kitchen was situated in a deep alcove, which, combined with dark cherry cabinets, made the space feel vault-like and isolated from the rest of the house.

We first added light by, paradoxically, eliminating glass block cutouts at the very top of the space, as their dark and limited the “view” – of the neighbor’s extremely close brick wall – made the space feel sunken and dank. We also separated the kitchen into two adjacent spaces with a wall the created a full height pantry in the back end of the room. This not only allowed us to add customized, built-in storage, but also created a defined space for the remaining kitchen area that felt intentional and easier to use.
