When new owners acquired The Walton Residence, an extended stay hotel located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, they decided that the building was due for a renovation. Built in 1927, the structure needed plenty of TLC and revealed many surprise obstacles along the way. As for the interior spaces, the furniture was literally falling apart and in dire need of updating.
Updating this 1927 building presented us with innumerable design challenges throughout construction, while also leading us to a re-thinking of the hotel as a whole. Even as we modernized various structural elements, we refined a vision that was inspired by the hotel’s history. Updating everything from the color palate and furniture to the artwork and accessories, creating a stunning penthouse complete with a gorgeous custom staircase, personalizing each room with while maintaining design identity and cohesion, the final result pays homage to Walton’s historical roots while incorporating the best modern design elements and amenities.
